The Doubting Prophet

The faithful prophet, John the Baptist, seems to be struggling with doubt. Jesus responds to his question with an encouraging truth and a call to greater faith.

  1. Based on Luke 3:16–17, what was John the Baptist likely expecting to happen soon? 
  2. How did Jesus’ miracles relate to Isaiah’s prophecies? 
  3. John seems to be struggling with his preconceived notions vs. how God’s plans were actually unfolding. How have you experienced a similar struggle? 
  4. How can we grow in our trust of God when we don’t understand his plans?
