As a result of the disastrous intermarriages between the godly line of Seth and the godless line of Cain, human sin was unbridled. The depravity of the race spiraled out of control. God saw His good creation becoming corrupt by the creature’s sin. He is grieved and pained in His heart and decides to wipe man off the face of the earth.

But one man and his family find grace.

There are two profound theological issues in this passage: Does God change His mind and does God have emotions. Those will be the topics of next week’s sermon. Our focus here really is on the depravity of the human heart and grace as our only hope.
