Abram has been waiting for God to fulfill His promises for almost 25 years. God appears and reminds Abram that He is El Shaddai, God Almighty. He calls Abram to a life of obedience and then changes his name, marking the new beginning. The covenant is about to be set in motion.

Discussion Questions

  1. What is the significance of God revealing Himself as El Shaddai to Abram? 
  2. Talk about a time when God forced you to recognize your own inability and His ability. 
  3. Identify one covenant promise that is important to you. 
  4. What does it mean to “walk before God and be blameless”? How are you doing in that calling?
